Protests eventually spilled over into Malvern, where shops many owned by foreigners were burned to the ground.

Sadly, the thugs orchestrating this wave of violence didn’t spare religious venues, either. The Masjid Himayatul Islam Mosque on Nugget Street was petrol-bombed late in the evening....

Violence continued to spread in Johannesburg on September 3 as SAPS and government leaders struggled to handle the attacks on both locals, foreigners and their properties. Whether the motive is crime or xenophobia, five people are dead, over a hundred have been arrested and millions of rand in property has been damaged.

The mosque upstairs was also targeted and a local security guard said copies of the Qur’an were torn.

Black and white primary school children in South Africa have been seen sitting at separate tables, in a classroom picture that has sparked anger among parents.

Stellenbosch University in South Africa said on Wednesday that three people were being questioned after it opened an investigation into Nazi-inspired posters promoting an "Anglo-Afrikaner Student" event on its campus.
