Europe could not implement a common policy against increasing number of refugees. After Sweden, Denmark and German’s limitations on refugees, Austria also announced that it would limit the number of refugees to 1.5% of its population.
In response, German Chancellor Angela Merkel invited the member countries of the EU to adopt a common police across the EU instead of individual decisions. Speaking at the World Economic Forum in Davos Germany’s Vice-Chancellor Sigmar Gabriel also stated that sealing off the borders against refugees would not yield positive results for the European economy.
