The parents of terminally ill Alfie Evans have lost a legal fight to move their son to a hospital in Italy.
Tom Evans and Kate James had hoped to persuade appeal court judges that their 23-month-old son Alfie should receive life-support treatment abroad.
However, the family have lost their latest court battle, with judges Lord Justice Davis, Lady Justice King and Lord Justice Moylan dismissing their appeal.
During the hearing in London, Paul Diamond, a lawyer representing Alfie’s parents said they wanted the Supreme Court to consider arguments raised.
Mr Evans, 21, and Ms James, 20, have already lost fights in the High Court, Court of Appeal, Supreme Court and European Court of Human Rights.
In February, Mr Justice Hayden ruled that doctors at Alder Hey Children’s Hospital in Liverpool could stop treating Alfie against the wishes of his parents.
Specialists at Alder Hey said life-support treatment should stop and Mr Justice Hayden said he accepted medical evidence which showed that further treatment was futile.
But Alfie’s parents say ‘the state’ is wrongly interfering with their parental choice.
Mr Justice Hayden said flying Alfie to a foreign hospital would be wrong and pointless, and Court of Appeal judges upheld his decisions.
