1,110 die of cholera in 29 states

At least, 1,110 people have lost their lives to cholera outbreak in 29 out of the 36 states of the federation this year.
This is contained in the weekly report of the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC).
In the weekly epidemiological report, week 43 report, NCDC disclosed that no fewer than 48,686 suspected cholera cases were recorded between weeks one and 43 of 2018, with 829 laboratory confirmed and 1,110 deaths from 239 local government areas in the 29 states.
According to the report, the cholera related death figure this year was several times higher than the 84 deaths which was recorded within the corresponding period in 2017.
The NCDC report, which further stated that the eight states most hit in the current outbreak were Adamawa, Borno, Katsina, Yobe, Zamfara, Bauchi Kano and Gombe, however, noted that in week 43 alone, 454 suspected cases with two laboratory confirmed and 30 deaths (CFR, 6.6 per cent) were reported from 29 local governments in the eight states.
