The work of 4 Turkish bus drivers working in the city lines of the City of Vienna was terminated due to the images recorded while making the “Bozkurt” sign.
Vienna City Lines (Wiener Linien) Spokesperson Christoph Heshmatpour said in a statement to the press that 4 employees who made the “Bozkurt” sign in the images found to be recorded in a bus park belonging to the City Lines were laid off.
Heshmatpour stated that the investigation is continuing with the other drivers in the images but who did not make the Bozkurt sign.
Yesterday, there were images on social media that showed that several people in business uniforms who were working as a bus driver on the Vienna City Lines and who were of Turkish origin were joking in a kitchen at the bus park while making jokes.
On 1 March 2019, the “Symbol Law” came into force in Austria on 1 March 2019, banning the use of signs and symbols belonging to various groups, including the Bozkurt symbol, on the grounds of “fighting extremism and political Islam”.
Up to 4 thousand euros or a month of imprisonment is envisaged in case of violation of the symbol law that Turks and Muslims living in Austria, especially the Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, reacts to.
