Vlaams Belang files a complaint against Arabic LEZ posters

The cabinet of ships Tine Heyse says that the posters were drawn up correctly, according to the rules of the Standing Committee for Language Supervision.
The Ghent city government launched a major information campaign to inform Gentenaar of the Low Emission Zone (LEZ), which will be enforced from next month. To prevent vulnerable groups from dropping out of the boat, among other things, a dozen posters are hung on mosques. On the posters is a Dutch text, with a translation in Turkish and Arabic.
It is an exceptional and highly targeted campaign, says the Heyse cabinet, which states that the poster is not in conflict with language legislation. But Vlaams Belang does not follow that argument. “The contacts of government services (in this case the City of Ghent) with citizens and companies must be in the administrative language of the municipality or city, in this case Dutch,” says party leader Johan Deckmyn.
