Syria is scheduled today to take over the presidency of the UN Conference on Disarmament.
The US has called on Russia to pressure Syria to stand down and not take the position. UN chief Antonio Guterres hopes that the Syrian appointment won’t have a negative affect.
Of course, there must be some twisted UN logic to appointing the country with the most recent experience in using chemical weapons on civilians to the forum that tries to ban their use in the first place.
We just can’t imagine what it might be.
