12 million children in need of emergency aid in Yemen National News

The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) said that around 12 million children in Yemen need urgent humanitarian assistance.
UNICEF Representative in Yemen Sara Beysolow Nyanti, in a written statement on the occasion of World Children’s Rights Day, stated that Yemen is one of the worst countries for children in spite of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child.
Nyanti pointed out that the ongoing conflicts brought the social service across the country to the brink of collapse and said that almost 12 million children in Yemen need immediate humanitarian assistance.
Nyanti also recalled that not all parties, including the Yemeni authorities, have met their commitments to children.
Since November 20, 1989, when the UN General Assembly signed the Convention on the Rights of the Child, every November 20 is celebrated as “World Children’s Rights Day”.
The Houthis in Yemen, where long-term political instability has reigned, have been in control of the capital Sana and some regions since September 2014.
