Two years in prison for man who screamed “go back to Africa” at school children and physically assaulting them

A man who went on a racist rampage and abused nearly a dozen young school children as they walked home from school in Margate has been jailed. Kevin Friend, 30, previously of Ingoldsby Road in Folkestone, started his racist rampage by assaulting a security guard at a shop in Margate High Street on Tuesday, June 2017. As seen in this video, he then continued on his rampage, shouting and swearing racial abuse at a number of Hartsdown Academy pupils in All Saints Avenue the same day. A 14-year-old pupil captured the incident on camera.
She previously told Kent Live: “I was just walking home from school and this man all of a sudden was shouting the N-word. He was saying go back to Africa. He shouted in my face. I’m really angry and embarrassed – he shouted at me in front of my friends.” He also slapped and pushed some of the teenangers. Friend then visited the address of a previous partner and assaulted her along with a neighbour before being arrested by Kent Police.
Once in custody Friend also assaulted a male police officer. He pleaded guilty to affray, two counts of common assault, racially aggravated public order and assault on an officer and was sentenced to two years in jail at Canterbury Crown Court on Wednesday, September 27. Investigating officer PC Chris Radley said: “This was a particularly nasty incident. Racism should never be tolerated and the fact that he assaulted so many young people proves what a danger he is to our community. I would like to thank the witnesses and victims for coming together and assisting us in securing the evidence we needed to see him convicted.”
